Default SG First Ride Impressions...

Took my first ride this weekend on my buddies 06 SG. And I must admit I was a bit disapointed in how the ride went. Ive had a few soft tails including my current 08 Night Train, I was expecting for the ride to go smoother than it did. I felt I was getting just as beat up by the wind on the SG as I do on the bikes Im used to riding without the fairings. I constantly had to be holding my glasses down as the wind bouncing off the screen kept pushing my glasses up and off. Then there was a the wind coming off the sides and from underneath the fairing that kept pushing me back in a weird way. Im 6'1'' and the bike was completely stock. Is this a common problem and what are you guys doing to get over this ??
Im looking at a few SG's myself and was wondering what I could do to get a more comfortable ride.

I don't experience any of that on my '11 Street Glide.
The ride is much more stable and comfortable than on my previous Fat Bob.

Quite a few people do end up putting a taller windshield on though, as the stock one is more for style than comfort.

The stock StreetGlide windshield is way to short and I am 5-10" the other thing about a stock SG is the rear suspension is horrible.
Yeah I hear ya it should be better however most people configure a bike to suit them anyway and I for one am extremely happy with the SG I have now.

I too don't experience it on my stock '11 SG however I have seen people on the forum who do experience it using the wind deflectors and a taller shield with a recurve talk about that solving the problem. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in with their first hand experience.

Yep same here this is the reason I purchased my RK instead. I loved the radio and the look, but the ride and the wind protection was horrible. The fairing alone with the stock windshield sucks on the SG, to get the most outta it definately need lowers to shield the wind from coming up your legs and hitting your head glases chest. The windshield is way too short an 8" with recurve would be about right. The fairing alone causes pressure changes where your positioned and created a weird turbulance that causes buffeting not really built for the taller riders i guess.

taller windshield will cure all, if your 6'1 try a road glide with a taller windshield, thats as good as it gets for harley

Try a 09 model with the new frame and get a higher windshield

I will admit, you do battle quite a bit of wind for having a fairing infront of you! But that being said, it is a very easy fix!! I ordered up a 7 inch wind splitter windshield and a set of lowers and completely solved my problem. I have found there is a pretty good pocket of "dead air" between me and the fairing. I am only 5'10'' so I may suggest a little taller windshield for a guy of your height!

i've got a 10" long ride windshield on my streetglide, and i'm three inches taller than you. i have no wind issues at all with this shield. the stock windshield and seat are two items that if you own a streetglide for very long, you'll replace. the rear air shocks might have not been set properly for your weight. streetglides are great bikes.

Question OK???

Did the SG have the stock W/S? That isn't much of a W/S. It would seem to me that the Batwing should give some protection. I had a 07 FLHT SDT with stock W/S (which is taller than SG) & it worked great. I have owned a Fat Boy & a couple FXRs & I can tell you that I sure noticed a difference in the wind on my 07. Now I ride a 11 FLTRX 103 with a Windvest 14'' W/S. Just my $ .02
