There is a product called Q-Bond I get it from my automotive supplier it is a two part bonding agent .You would use the black powder around the piece apply drops of the adhesive it will smoke with the chemical reaction in 10 sec. it is rock hard .Body shops use it to glue the plastic grills together it even lists motorcycle fairings as an use. Their is also a grey powder for filling holes and cracks in alum. after the product is set it can be ground or shaped.

I'd try mixing up a 2-part epoxy and laying down a good size blob on the cover and placing the broken post back in place. Allow 24hrs for it to set and then shape the excess around the base with a dremel and all should be fine.
