Default Broken Side Cover Mounting Stud/Post

Anybody have any experience or tips for repairing a side cover with a broken mounting stud/post? I have the piece that broke off, and if it matters, it's the rear post on the part of the side cover hidden by the saddle bag.

You can get a replacement part at the dealer.

You don't mean the entire side cover??? The piece that broke off is molded right on the cover (all one piece) so what replacement part are you referring to?

You're not talking about what it's bolted to?

you'll need to find (buy or borrow) a plastic welder...

it'll work just fine...watch the dvd they'll include. the piece is hidden anyways, so you don't have to worry too much on how it looks as long as it stays together.

Ditto on the plastic welder. That is probably the best repair method.

But here's a quick fix idea to ponder. I'm not sure it will work but it's so easy it might be worth a try.

I beleive the side covers are ABS plastic. It's quite possible that some ABS pipe cement will fuse that stud back on. And to reinforce the repair, before bonding the pieces together see if you can drill a small diameter thru the broken off stud and into the cover (without going through the cover) for a stud or screw to help with any lateral loads.

Like I say, I'm not sure if it will work but I'd give it a shot.
