Default Air Cleaner Combo

Now that it's February and spring is around the corner (hopefully), I'm getting prepared to do my winter mods (no sense in Wisconsin doing these in December) of cams and air cleaner. I currently run a Kury Hypercharger and I know I know, you've all said they are junk, but I must say I have had no problems with mine. Having said that, I was fortunate to get a little cash gift over the holidays and I'm going to experiment with a new air cleaner.

After endless hours of research and reviewing just about every forum there is, I'm pursuing a little different approach, but I'm really looking to you experts for some reactions.

Right now I'm looking at picking up the SE Chrome Backplate (29624-08) online for $42, then going with an Arlen Ness Stainless Steel filter (18-083) online for $56, then to cover it, I'm leaning towards the PM Domino Faceplate and SE/AN upgrade kit, both online for around $120. This combo puts me at around $220.

I'm curious what the Arlen Ness Big Sucker Kit with stainless steel filter would do for me at a price of $147 that I wouldn't get with my setup? What am I missing? Oh yea, throw in a pre-filter/cover for another $30. What else?

Would this setup perform as well as say the Big Sucker or SE Kit?

Amazing what you can do with the computer. What do you think? Chrome Domino or Black Wrath?

Each to his own-but I don't like those big a/c covers. I think all the features of the bike should blend for the overall look and not have one prominent feature jumpimg out at you.. It detracts from all the other stuff you spent a ton of money on. I used Fuelmoto chrome SE kit with KN filter and a beautiful HD 105 anniversay cover from ebay. about $225 delievered. No, I don't have ability to post photo.

What do you think of your hypercharger? No one seems to like them but I've always liked the way they look just not sure how they perform. I have one on the way with some new Rinehart pipes. Was it a waste of money like I continue to read?

Honestly, I have had no problems with the hypercharger. It was fairly easy to install and I've never had issues with oil coming from anywhere around the air cleaner. I too have read over and over where people had issues with the hypercharger. My goal is to see for myself if there are any performance gains. For what it's worth, a reputable site sponser told me that they haven't had much luck with the hypercharger in terms of dyno numbers. My only complaint I have of the hypercharger is that when you want to take the filter out to clean it, there are 4 very small screws to get the cover apart and it's just a little teadious if you ask me.

for a stock build, the hypercharger is gonna flow just fine. i personally just don't like them. i think your plan is fine, however, i would go with the black backing plate. most of the chrome won't even be seen, just a waste of money (imo). i think the fuel moto/se combination is pretty good bang for the buck, though.

Thanks for all your input. I actually started with the AN Billet Sucker setup that TORQUEY posted, but after finding the Performance Machine faceplate options, I'm leaning that route now. The PM air cleaner without the faceplate is $330 and throw on the faceplate of choice and you're over $400...no way. So, why couldn't you pick up the SE Backplate (29624-08) and put any filter on it you want....my choice is the Arlen Ness Stainless Steel in lieu of the standard red filters. After shopping around endlessly, I think I've found the winning combination.

Arlen Ness Stainless Steel Filter 18-083 with the SE Backplate 29624-08 from Amazon with shipping for $120. (compared to the fuel moto chrome version listed at $150 with a standard red filter)

Plus

Performance Machine Pre-Filter, SE Upgrade Kit, and Faceplate from Dennis Kirk with free shipping for $140.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the PM Chrome Wrath faceplate, not pictured in my previous posts. Should look something like the attachment with mesh in the voids.
