Congrats! But good luck not spending any money on mods. Its a real disease!!!!!!!!!! It's half the fun of owning a Harley. Enjoy it stock at least for a while. I know I didn't. Ride safe.

Thanks for all the responses. I should have mentioned that I have got the modding bug before with my Shadow - pipes, Mustang solo seat, chrome accents....

I think personalizing bikes is one of the aspects of riding that really attracts people. Now, with my dream bike....I think I'll keep it wait for a while before I do anything cosmetic. I just want to freaking ride.

I am more concerned about things like the Stage 1 which will help the bike run cooler. You know, tweaks that will help me take care of it mechanically.

Best mods will be boots, a jacket, gloves and ear protection.

Change the oil regularly and use synthetic, that's all you need to do. Everything else is just modding to personal taste.

You NEED a repair manual if you do anything... and have it bound at I believe it is Staples. There are several treads in the past on it. enjoy

I think one of the best mods is getting the bike re-tuned to run cooler. My 99 has stage 1 and slip ons, my 08 has stage 1 with stock pipes (will eventually get slip ons) and my 03 is stock engine wise. The 03 runs VERY hot while sitting in traffic on hot days and I plan on at least doing an air filter and re-tune but will keep the stock pipes.

Congrats on your purchase!

For some inspiration as to what the completely stock bike is capable of, this guy rode a '08 RKC from Alaska to Argentina, and it was his first motorcycle!

I had no intention of doing any upgrades, but after 6,000 miles I'd like to get a more comfortable seat. I'll probably get one this spring. Other than that I have no plans on upgrading/changing anything.

My riding buddies have a pool on when they think I'll be getting new pipes. I just don't think it needs them. I like the sound and will ride it the way it is.

Nope, just ride it. If you feel a need to change something, do it. Otherwise don't modify only because others do.

the only thing you gotta do to your new bike, is get it out and go riding. spend some saddle time getting to know your bike. you might just want to keep it entirely stock. enjoy your new ride, and congratulations on it.
