Mp3 to hk

I have a Sony MP3 player which sounds great through the ear buds.
When I plug it into the AUX jack of the radio it plays but sounds terrible.
I had to turn the MP3 volume way up to even hear it. As you can guess I am not an audio geek.
Any suggestions ?

i know my ipod sounds great thru the aux. Do you have another device you could try in the aux port?

Try a different / better plug.
Also be sure that the mini phono plug is completely seated. A loose fitting plug will make any rig sound terrible.
