I have heard alot of mufflers on here thanks to the clips you guys have puton here. It is hard to tell with different people using different recording equiptment exactly what they sound like in person... so I figure I would let Harley Owners' ears do it for me.
I am looking for the low low thumping bass sounding muffler. I was leaning toward the V&H Monster Rounds or The Reinhart 4". I dont need to wake the neighbors up so volume is not huge for me. I would rather the bike sound beefy at rest than ear shattering at speed...
The Monster Rounds fill that bill. Mine are almost too much with a full face helmet, perfect with a half helmet. I have not heard the Rineharts but I had 3 1/2" rineharts on my 07 and they got pretty loud after 20,000 or so miles.
CFR's, hands down.....nothing is even close. My buddy has a 2-1 4" Rinehart on his 09 SG and it sounds high-pitched next to mine. I used to think his was deep.
I bought some knock-offs and they are deep and loud.
click the vid, this is mine warm idle.
i just put on a set of CFR knockoffs on my 2009 RKC (96cui stock headers with cat , big sucker kit + remap) yesterday....shakin´!!!
since i´ve heard live on comparable bikes some deep sounding pipes, my ranking would be as follows ( all of them have a deeeeep rumbling sound ) starting with less loudness up to most "present" one : ( from nice to cool )
- V+H Monster Ovals
- V+H Monster Rounds
- V+H Hi-Output or Pro-pipe
- CFR / CFR-knockoffs ( sound almost the same)
???- CFR / CFR-knockoffs with the Baffle gutting from Paul Yaffe ??????? - i dont have comparison on these, haven´t heard them live yet--
-- by the way can anyone describe by experience the difference in sound between the standard CFR´s / knockoffs and the ones with the gutting from Paul Yaffe inside ?????
the looks : that´s a different and also a long story.... in my opinion if you want them huge then the V+H Hi-Output are cool, but: concerning styling the CFR´s are unmatched yet and : few people own ones !
also the CFR´s are repackable ( the inner noise absorbing material- fiberglass similars ), so repacking them with the high quality " SILENT-SPORT"tm material the sound would be even deeper again !!! ( thats what i will do after 1000-2000 miles or so )
That sounds pretty doggone good! I'd like to hear it at speed.
Just FYI for the OP, I'm running V&H dresser duals and Monster Ovals. SE ventilator A/C, SEST, S&S 510G camset, and after 13k miles on that setup...they sound great! Perfect for what I was looking for. I miss my V&H bigshot duals some days, but I like being able to hear my radio now. Plus I really dig the deep tone. The monster rounds sound almost the same...heard them on another guy's bike at a bar when I was on a trip.
hello, do you know whats exactly the difference between the normal CFR´s and the ones you got from Yaffe ??? can you perhaps post some pics from the inside of your pipes?
thanks
To take a complicated question due to "personal taste" and make it more complicated.. Just heard 4" Rineharts... sound like the V&H Monsters but a little louder I think... is that about right or should I lay off the beer a bit before hand. (One I heard in a garage and one outside so I may be off...
I like the CFR sound... THANKS ALOT FOR THE POSTS!!! but I do want to hear the stereo and I am sure the lady on the back wants to also... so yet another factor to consider... And the beat goes on.
PS if you have not figured it out yet, I am very new to this forum.. just bought this bike. My first dresser.. I have really enjoyed reading all the info on here.. In time I will do like you guys do and put up some pics, an avatar etc etc etc...
Thanks!
If you want bass??? Then CFR. You can hear the radio at cruise but not when you are going through the gears. But they sound awesome. Would not trade mine for anything. And they are built much better than any V&H pipe. The chrome work on the CFR is very nice.
