2001 road king carb. with SE a/c and thunderheader 2-1. I took it in for hydraulic tensioner upgrade and se203 cams. Bike was running great when I took it in with a 46, 190 and 2 #4's under the needle. I think I was close to 2 turns out on the mixture screw.
As part of the cam upgrade the dealer installed a 48 pilot jet. It ran a 76hp, 88tq. When I came to pick it up all they had done since that point was remove the 2 shims from the needle. this attached dyno is that run 48,190,stock needle no shims (I misprinted on the chart), got a few more hp and tq but rich at low rpm. carb farts at low rpm in all gears really ran bad. I'm thinking about going back to the 46 but not sure about the needle. what do you guys think?
Looks like the A/F ratio really takes a dive when you first gun it. The A/F ratio line should dip a little, but not as much as your reading is showing. This is caused by your accerlator pump shooting fuel down the throat of your carb. Try backing off on the amount of fuel you accelerator is dumping. As far as the rest of the line, when your at peak torque, it is on the lean side. If you bumped your main jet up a little it would bring the number down. Carbs are tough to get a straight AFR line. I've got a '01 RK carberated myself.
