thanks for the replies. I should have mentioned in my original post it's for pearl black. I'll shop around a little more. The Roadglide does have a couple extra pieces over the Eglide. I also know there will probably be a challenge with fisheyes from all the crap I've used on it over the years to keep it better looking. Maybe I should go with Rhino liner and forget about it... lol.
my painter charges $150 extra for fuglies cause of all the extra pieces, glove compartment doors, seperate speedo tach cover etc etc. can't compare prices that are posted for the lil batwing inner fairings
I got my painter that does them all for 150.00 plus paint i got a pint of the harley sedona orange and it was about 90 so i have about 250 in mine it is flawless like glass he did the one on my vivid black 08 it was just as nice
Steve, nothing wrong with shopping around provided the comparable painters do excellent work and use premium materials.
I have a good riding buddy who just had his '09 black pearl RG inner fairing painted through the local HD store and the painter did a very poor job; so bad in fact I was surprised the tech even put the inner fairing on the bike. And it was the painter's second chance with the job since his original effort was a poor match; much too dark according to one of the techs who saw the first effort--I didn't see it.
Point is, you'll be looking at that fairing every time you ride and you will notice any flaw (junk in the paint/fisheye/etc.) even if you "saved" $100 bucks by finding someone to do it for $300 instead of this guy's quote of $400.
With any quote, get a description of the process/procedure the painter will use and the paint/system he's going to use.
The PPG code for HD black pearl is 905208 (double-check with a PPG auto paint distributor) and ask the distributor for the cost of a pint--I don't know if black pearl is a two stage (base coat/clear coat) or three stage color (base/tinted clear/clear) which makes a big difference in cost. The price may give you an idea of the cost of one of the major components in overall material cost of the job.
I'm not a tech or painter; but, I did get somewhat familiar with the subject when I was preparing to have my bike repainted two years ago.
Just got mine done last month. The inner fairing, lower switch cap, and both mirrors, painted to match for $250 cash. Excellent job and I am very pleased.
I think it is more of WHO does the painting than the COST of the paint work. $250 and I am please, great. $450 and I am not please, not so great. You will have to do your homework to fine the right person to do the work.
just did mine 2008 flhx.485.00 vivid black installed.they also painted outer fairing for 165.00.corso cycles in woburn ma.they advertise on ebay if u live out of state.u can purchase paited inner fairing and install yourself for cheaper money.
I am having my ultra classic done in two tone right now for $665. The dealer is removing the guages and having a local body shop do the painting. Said he has done a lot of them and they look great, so I am hoping they are right. Would have been $150 less for just one color, but I thought what the hell.
