I took the tour and saw all the old engines lined up to worked on. Only a few guys working on them that day. It looked like a layed back kind of job to me. Lots of auto machining going on with someone walking around waiting for something to put together. Very cool stuff.

Tour only took a couple of hours.

Typical turn around is two weeks from the point the dealer has the motor picked up by conway. BTW H-D customer service telling you the dealer sent it to the wrong address is BS and is just H-D throwing your dealer under the bus. Having done multiple remans, all I have to do as the dealer is call conway and tell them I have a reman that needs to be picked up. The BOL is automatically filled out by the MOCO and Conway.

H-D is a trainwreck with all the moving they are doing.

Pc PaiN the dealer is the one who stated they sent it to the wrong address. Not HD. I'm not sure who is wrong about what. I guess I'll find out after I finally get my engine back. Pc PaiN do you know which parts are remaned and which are reused I'm still trying to get this information.

Had an engine remaned about a year ago under warranty. It was a little less than 3 weeks from the time it was shipped out til it arrived back in the shop.

It is NOT a new engine. It is a Re-manufactured engine. They go through your engine and anything that is not up to spec is replaced.

I'm sure there is a standard list of parts they replace anyway such as bearings, bushings and seals.
I think the Re-man info is in the parts catalog.

That's a pretty good indicator that there are so many replacement motors being built, they can't keep up. They're probably using the same labor to build new motors as they are remanufactured motors.

Anything that isn't in factory spec is replaced. All cosmetic finishes are replaced/repaired.

What dealer are you using down in the woodlands? If your dealer says that they sent it to the wrong address that seems weird to me. Like I said, we don't address anything. I'm wondering if someone dropped the ball on crating the engine and scheduling the pick up.

Either way you should be happy when you finally get it back. I have sent some serious train wrecks in for repair that came back looking brand new and running brand new. Not to mention they are building them now with the tensioner / oil pump upgrade in them.

I'm getting a little crazy not riding since I ride the bike almost everyday and I think I'll check out the rental bike for a few days, since it looks like they owe me.

Just a thought for you as i didn't see what size engine you are replacing. Mine was an 88' so I cant say about the 96" applying here.
I called customer service and gave her my bikes VIN # and she put me on hold, calling engine reman dept I guess. She stated I had a complete new engine, as that is what they have been doing since Aug 2010.

I called Pilgrim Road Menomonee Falls, WI W. 156 N. 9000 Pilgrim Road Menomonee Falls, WI 53051 (+1) 262 502 8000 where the engines are built but didn't get an aswer. I will call monday to see if ALL are new or just certain ones.
Leroy

Ps Can you upgrade on your dime for example 88'' to a 95''? as the service dept.

In the 2011 parts catalog, it lists upgrade options, but not what it'll cost you.
You CAN upgrade your existing motor from an 88" to a 95" motor.

Certain after-market parts, if installed when the motor gets shipped out, will be replaced with factory parts. This includes things like cams & pushrods. The finish is bead/sand blasted clean, and re-finished with your choice of raw, polished or black. any file marks will doubtlessly have been scoured away.

I'm seriously considering having this done to my '99 Twinkie, but, if possible, I'll also have them swap out the Magnetti-Marelli EFI to the Delphi. Probably repaint the tins at the same time. Cheaper than buying a whole new bike...

Yet another disappointment for me about Harely. Bought a new bagger in 97, rode it very little, has about 10,000 miles on it.....chewed up the pinion gear, oil pump and kicked out the tapered main bearing.....no reason for that to have ever happend as well as this bike has been taken care of.

Anyway, after doing all the research and talking with all the experts, the reman program was the way I elected to go. Big Money for me. Not an easy decision. But, pushed the button and delivered the bike to the dealer of choice (after "interviewing" four dealers within an hour of my house).....on 2/10/11. Clear understanding it was going have the engine out and shipped in a "couple of days'

Just spoke witht the service manager (It is now 2/22) and he said it was all crated up and ready to go.......the whole damn thing is going to take over a month.......no where else can a company or a set of company reps (dealers) conduct business like this. It is just wrong. Why are so many Harley shops and the Company themselves so cavalier about someone spending thousands of dollars of their hard earned money and not really delivering a quality product or quality service...???
