Default Rider Backrest installation issues

I recently purchased the studded rider backrest for my RK however, it seems to be quite challenging in installing it. To me the instructions are not very helpful. I tried installing it with the tab forward, like instructions indicated, however I can't get the seats to fit properly. Can someone please provide my with some concise intructions?

Thanks.....

I think the problem is that I have a 2 piece seat. I may need toup grade my seat to a one piece seat such as a sundowner.

I just installed one on my friends '06 Road King Classic last week. He had to purchase the one piece Sundowner for his bike before it would work.
