Default Rider backrest

Need a little help. My wife, God bless her, got me a stock Harley backrest for my birthday. It bolted up easily, about 6 minutes, put the seat back on and inserted the backrest. The angle was such that it pushed the seat forward at the slit about 1 to 2 inches wrinkling the seat quite a bit. I removed the seat and tried every mounting hole with the same result. I checked and re-checked the instructions, I know I had it right. I've got a Sundowner seat on a '02 RKC. By the angle of the backrest, it's as if they had the cushon on backwards. Anybody run across this? I've seen these on other bikes so they must work.

Thanks

Chris

The rider backrest I have has (4) mounting positions on the fender. I have found the closer to the front of the bike the base is mounted the more it pushes the rider seat when the backrest is inserted into the base. I really didn't notice bunching up too bad in either of the last two pair of holes...

"stock" Harley backrest... "Sundowner" seat... maybe that's your problem

I have an 05 Ultra and my backrest dues the same thing. Bunches up the seat at the front. I am going to install longer bolts through the fender when it's time for a new rear tire and shim the bracket to tilt the back rest toward the rear. I have mine in the last hole moving it all the back. Didn't help, still bunches.

Just one of HD's poor designed products.

I fixed mine by placing a 5/16 bolt & nut, head down, in the forward hole, thus, raising the front of the mounting bracket. I attached the bracket in the second hole. The angle is now correct. No bunching or mashed seat.
