Default Abs

Hello. I am purchasing a 2011 Ultra Classic and was looking at getting some feed back of peoples views on ABS. I ride in a parade unit and had heard that ABS wasn't helpful while doing the different drill formations. Does anyone have experience riding in parades with ABS and your thoughts. Thank you for responding.

I love ABS, the roads I ride on here are really slick, they have been engaged more than once, saved me quite a few times. I will say though, ABS has made my braking technique very relaxed. I have no qualms about braking when needing to, etc....

As far as parade formations, I would say that info is BS, unless you are riding around in formation trying to lock them up. The ABS will only engage when the wheel sensors do their sensing thing. Go for the ABS.

On a side note, I am an MSF Rider Coach. We show braking techniques during the Advanced Rider Course. It is amazing how fast this bike will come to a complete stop from 30 mph (without locking up the brakes).

Hmmm... don't think you will find anyone with an ABS experience while riding in a parade...lol Are drill formations done at 60 mph? Like a car, ABS kicks in under heavy braking, not stopp n roll parades.

Let me clarify a little bit. During the parade we perform tight circles figure eights and like manuevers. We do ride the breaks and occasionally "chirp" the tires. Close calls have happened. With this additional info. Would you still do the ABS?

I still would. You will still be able to chirp the tires on the verge of lockup with ABS. Worst case, if you don't like it, pull the fuse for the ABS motor during the competitions, and put it back in for regular duty.

ABS do not work on a curve, only when the bike is straight . per video that came with the bike. Brakes will work normal just not ABS when in a lean.

Default go for it

I ride in parades and have ABS and never had a problem

I have occassionally participated in "Ride like a pro" exercises, where you are turning tight circles, hoding the brake while in the friction zone, and never had a problem.

Do it.
