As long as you have the stock pipes and V&H Ovals....you are going to have decel popping. You can mess with the maps all you want, but you won't get rid of them unless you get the bike dyno-tuned. The stock maps in the database are way off and it takes a good tuner to get you going in the right direction. I used to have a lot of decel popping and after I installed the V&H true duals, I took it to Nesbit, MS to V-twin performace and they tuned it for me. It gained 8 hp and 6 foot pounds torque and no more decel popping. Just spend the money and get it tuned and you will be so happy.
Gunrunner, I added the 20% to the 1250 rpm up to 2000 rpms. Took it to work today and it appears that it reduced some of the popping. Its better than it was before but could still use some improvement. Is it a good approach to adjust only those rpms when it starts to pop??
From what I read here, sounds like those of us with the V&H ovals to also go with the true dual headers - will help eliminate the decal popping? What about any loss in torque?
I have the ovals on my 05 Ultra, but with a SERT, used the Stage 1 map and tweeked up the 0 throttle position. I have to rev above 4K and shift down from like 3rd to 1st very fast to get any popping. Seems very close to me - just don't want to lose any torque.
Mufflers dont cause decell pop, going from rich to lean air mixture does, I have no decell pop using vance and hines ovals and their fuel pack, guess they have a better set up program than PCIII for their products, and on a dyno a good tech can tune it out on a PCIII too. You have to remember a generic map generated on another bike in another location (different altitude) will come close but more than likly not be perfect on your bike.
