HD aint no fool...Chumps like us are the Fools...On Saturday My dumb *ss paid $20 for a Knurled Chrome Thumbscrew that holds down the rear seat..$20, I must be crazy... They really got me by the "Short Hairs" on that one because I had lost the screw and I needed to have one...then
Come to find out I need another connector adapter (35 Pin) for another $20 to complete the install. After over pricing the interface you would think they would have the adapter included... or you think the stealer would have warned me that I might need the adpater so I could have purchased it.
Even though it's listed in the catalog, no question in my mind that someone at the parts counter should have asked you 'if you already had one...' I remember years ago buying two H-P Laser ColorJet printers, spending almost $2k. Do you think the guy who 'sold' me the printers told me I needed a USB cable, which was not the norm back then? Nooooo; instead, I had to drive 20 miles round-trip, and couldn't make it back before the store closed, so I had to wait until the next day to get them set up and try them out.
It's all about customer service, and letting someone walk out the door without making sure they've got everything they need to complete the project is a big strike-out in my book. I feel the parts person is supposed to be the expert on what it takes to install an accessory, at least in terms what's needed to do the job.

You mean the connector that the catalog warns you that you will need? Why should the guys with the bikes that don't require the connector have to buy one with the kit and throw it away? I don't think it is HD that sucks.
Nobody sucks .... just some things don't make no sense. My wife bought me the Harley dual-source heated vest for Xmas, the one that either connects to the bike's battery OR runs off it's own battery. And even though the vest comes with the battery charger, the battery is sold seperately. (Yes, it says it's sold separately in the catalog). So, back to the dealership we go to purchase the battery.
I ran down to the stealer after work today to purchase an Ipod interface for my 2010 Street Glide. After spending $400.00 you would think you would have everything needed to install... NOT. Come to find out I need another connector adapter (35 Pin) for another $20 to complete the install. After over pricing the interface you would think they would have the adapter included... or you think the stealer would have warned me that I might need the adpater so I could have purchased it.
For those kind of things (screws that are seldom seen)...ACE hardware are the friendly helpful folks.
