Although the RG is more money and you’ll need to spend more after you get it, I would go with it. That is if you can stay afloat with the extra money. I’m a little partial to the RG as I have an 09 Sceamin Eagle.
You may want to shop a little more. There are some real nice Ultra Classics out there that sell for reasonable prices. If you find the standard model you could install a detachable tour pack and it looks very much like a Street Glide. Should get into a new one, 2011, for 23500 or used 09-10 for 18 to 20 depending on the extras and mileage.
+1 with what sonoffatboy said. I rented a Electra Glide Classic last month in Florida. It's a whole lotta bike for the money - and it comes from the factory designed for 2-up riding. That way you don't have to spend a lot of money right after you buy it (my wifey hates that). If you could find a 2009 EGC, it may be in your price range.
Yeah, I am a bit of a romantic, and really enjoy the old fashion feel of being alone and quiet on the open road. What lured me to the Street Bob, is also what lures me to the Road King.
You didn't mention this in your original post, but, like someone else mentioned, if you want something reminiscent of a Dyna, you may prefer the RK because you can run it without a windshield and get that cruiser thang. But maybe you're closing that chapter in your life.
I just got a 2000 RK and I really like to cruise it without the windshield.
I think I will ride both. Whichever FEELS best, I'll get. I find that is always the best move. The Street Bob fit like a GLOVE, so I'll have to see which one fits the best with me and the wife.
If you think you are gonna have to change the seat on the glide have the dealer do it before you test ride it, it might make all the difference in the way it feels.
