Another thing that may be happening,, if you touch the slip on muffler at the very end and the sound goes away, then there is a rubber bushing on the exhaust that absorbs the vibration. I had to wedge a small piece of rubber (cut from an inner tube) in mine to tighten up this so it didn't rattle. If you remove the bag, you will see this rubber bushing where the pipe is bolted to the bar.

also make sure the rear muffler hanger is somewhat centered if the pipe slips back it will hit on the hanger. also look for heatsheild clamps make sure they dont hit anything when its running.

ive been through all this , to finnaly figure out i got a bad headpipe from the factory.if i dropp both rear hangers my right side pipe stays tight to the bag rail the left side will dropp to the floor tryed readjusting headpipe to no avail, looks like the 2-1 ive been eyeing is coming sooner than later.
there is another part called a Muffler Mount & is also rubber. It under the bags, but your nuffler should be vibrating more also. I would suggest you take both bags off & check all bolts, the rubber type grommets that the pins go through to hold the bags on. you need to think back when it started. good luck & get back & let us know what you found
