Default Fuel pump install troubles

Looking for a little help. I pulled the fuel pump to replace fuel lines in my 02 Road Glide and all went well but I put it back in the tank and the canopy cover sits 1/4 inch too high on the left side of the tank. After a flashlight in the mouth and wiggling it around it looks like the fuel pump pick up screen is hitting the center of the tank. This is the second time I've had it in there. I don't want to force anything. What am I doing wrong?

You may not be doing anything wrong at all. The pickup presses on the bottom of the tank. I had exactly the same thing on my '02 Ultra several years ago, pulled it for the same reason. When I put it back together, the canopy needed to be pressed down about 1/4" on the left side. I asked on the HTT forum and was told to go ahead and screw it down. I did and never had any problems.

Hey Ken thank for the quick reply. I stopped at the local dealer and asked the same question.. here's the response " There is a technique to install those if you would like some help bring it in." I told him I'd figure it out.
