I know that there are lots of threads on this but my tuner says that I should remove the Vance and Hines Straight cut slip ons and get some ones with baffles so he can get the bike running with low to mid range power which is what I'm after!
The work he's doing is flowed heads, Andrews Cams and 95 " barrels.
I just wondered what your thoughts were?
if your mufflers are bafflless he is right it will be difficult at best to get it to run right in the lower rpm range, some backpressure is needed for good low end torque.
Go to SuperTrapp's website and review their comments on "tuning" their baffle. Actually all you do is add or subtract (additional) plates to get the loudness, HP (think back pressure) or other combination you want.
I used their 2:1 configuration on my 03 Fat Boy and liked them so much I opted for the Night Stick slip-on for my new RG. The Night Stick is a rebranded SuperTrapp exhaust.
Once again and depending on your preferences, I opted to change the stock baffle (3 options are available from SuperTrapp) to get a little more sound from the Night Stick.
It is a very informative web site. It may help.

Thanks for the info, I would like to go Supertrapp 2 into 1 but I have now got bags that have cutouts!
The Supertrapp slip ons are the thing, I will look out for a pair when the funds are available!
I contacted the supplier of the V&H pipes I have and he said that there are some single plate baffles coming to fit those pipes, has anyone had experience with these?
It's your call, but I have the B&E Superflows Max II's for two years, and they come as close to the Harley sound as you can get, when you get on it they sound off, and have a nice rumble at idle.Best of all they were $125 with shipping. Still shiny and spotless. you don't have to pay a lot to get the sound you want. I love mine. they have gotten louder over the past 2 years too.
hmm- I suggest you see what is available in the UK.
are you using stock headers? - which are perfectly fine for that application- or true duals which will reduce torque as well as the open mufflers
I'm a supertrapp Guy, using Supermegs on my bikes as they are tunable.
you can also make them quite quiet should you live where noise restrictions are enforced.
the taper on the supermegs has them at 4 inches wide at the exit.
as noted above the nightstick is a supertrapp pipe made to screaming eagle specs, so a little different than the supermeg ( they say). screaming eagle can get away with the supertrapps as the catalytic is now controlling noise emissions
other than that, basic rule of thumb is straight through give horsepower gains at high revs ( 5000 rpm)
right kind of restriction give torque gains at 2500 rpm
you've seen your tachometer, you know which rpm range you spend most of your time in.
sounds like you tuner has a clue- what does he recommend?

They look like baffled but straight through.
