Hey fabrik8r, can you give us the part numbers you used for both please? The first link brings up the whole catalog page, and the second link doesn't open for me. Thanks!
I know its been awhile since you posted this. Are the spiral retaining rings still working for you?
I have my Rineharts off again for other work and going through my old take-off retaining rings, all are bent. Yes I always torque to spec. Ran across this post and thinking, there has to be a better retaining ring than OEM.
Also I see Harley did something about the exhaust ring clamps bending, the new 65328-83A has a lot more metal in the weak area than the old 65328-83. As far and exhaust nuts, I changed over to Stage 8 Locking Fasteners years ago and never worry about the nuts backing out stage8.com.
Still working, and never an issue, truly a fire-n-forget item and never any rust. not sure why these rings aren't mainstream and widely used. surprising the links are still functional

The McMaster-Carr link is still valid. I just ordered eight rings (having bench stock is nice, I always order extra small consumables).
International customers should ask their local machine shops to find an equivalent or (better) study local industrial suppliers since McMaster don't ship globally.
Every mechanic and serious hobbyist should familiarize themselves with their country's industrial supply houses and take care to learn part terminology. Example spiral retaining ring info: https://www.smalley.com/retaining-rings/spirolox
