I was just riding along........

.....and my GPS, which I had suction cupped to the bike, fell off. I didn't want to lose my $1000 GPS so I tried to grab it to avoid losing it or it breaking. Unfortunately I lost my focus on what was happening in front of me and rear-ended the car in front of me when he hit the brakes.

I bet that hundred bucks spent on a proper hard mount is looking like a pretty good idea.

I use the suction cup and mount it to the gas cap cover. Use spit on the cup. Makes it hold better. I fold the cord up and put a zip tie around it. So, if the GPS comes loose it does not fall below the gas tank. Works for me. But. I only have the el cheapo $120.00 Garmen.

I would just have the navigator on the back hold it. Bet you go wherever she tells you.

As another possible option, here is the handle bar ball mount that I use for a basic Garmin 760. The mount comes with the little gizmo that you see in the last two pics. It adheres to the back of the GPS unit and allows you to use a safety zip tie. To be honest, the ball mount alone is secure enough for me.

This is what I have and couldn't be happier. Great looking and very secure.

Ok, I know about the RAM mounts, but really don't want it mounted to the handlebars. Got enough clutter on there with the mirrors, controls, etc. Would rather mount it to the inner fairing than on the bars. Going to find a store that carries RAM products and see if I can find the ball on a shaft that is threaded and drill a hole in the fairing and mount it there. The ziptie bracket is available from most electonic shops, will see if I can find one. Thanks

Joe

One thing to remember when mounting anything to your inner fairing, HOLES are forever.
