Default 1st service

Who all has taken there bike to the dealer for the first service?

I have a 2010 SG with 980 miles on it and I was going to go the dealer route for the first service but wanted some opinions.

They want $280.

Whats ur thoughts and what fluids are you putting back in?

Thanks!

I took mine to the dealer for the first service; had them change all three holes to synthetic while it was there. I felt that I wanted everything checked over at the dealer the first time. After that I alternate between the dealer and doing it my self.

I took it to the dealer for the first service too. There's a lot of things on the list that they check or service. The first one is critical. If anything is going to go wrong with a new bike due to something being out of spec or mis-adjusted, that is the time to catch it.

I'd say if you're technically inclined and comfortable with your bike's systems, then consider doing it yourself, but do everything on the list. I am sure there's lots of guys here who will say you are wasting your money having the dealer do it, but I'm not one of them.

Personally, I let the dealer do the first and then all of the 10k's. Everything in-between, I do myself. And I use HD synthetic.

I let the dealer do my 1st service also. I feel comfortable with their service department and they always do a good job. I switched to syn3 in all holes and never had any problems with any of the bikes that I owned. It's good to get a copy of the service manual just in case you decide to do something yourself.

I had my FLTRX serviced at HD. my old bike I ran hd SYN 3 in all three holes This one NO WAY. Redline Shockproof in tranny. HD 360 20/50 engine & HD primary oil. I'll run the HD oils until I do the 5000 mile then Redline all the way around. You need a GOOD gear lube in the tranny. it doesn't matter what brand of oil. IMO most of them a great. There are many many threads on this. I've always done all my work on my bikes UNTIL my last bike in 07. Just to much hassle for me & my poor old knees just don't work that well anymore. I do suggest you get a HD Service Manual. Ride safe & enjoy

So far I have had the dealers do the first service on both of my HD's.
On my '06 I did all the service up to 50K before I sold it and I just did the 5K on my '11.

My first was more than $280, that's for sure! And they didn't tighten my steering bolt and shorted my engine 1 quart of oil.

Next thing I did was buy a Pit Bull jack and a case of Amzoil...
