anyone running the crane ignition? I have an 02 carbed FLHT and installed the crane hi 4 adjustable ignition. It didn't seem to make much of a difference on my bike but made a noticable differnce on my buddies herritage springer. In addition it seems to smack me with the rev limiter too soon, and inconsistantly. makes the bike feel like its running out of fuel. It started the week after I got the module. I only noticed it when i was below a 1/4 tank and assumed it was really low on fuel. Now its happening with a full tank. Unless i have a block in the fuel line somewhere, it must be the module. Has there been any problems or recalls published about the module?
I had a buddy that had one on his 00 Duece. It was a great ignition, but he had to send the first one back for some sort of problem. I don't recall what it was, but I do recall that it was not oally dead... jus no working properly. All he did was call Crane & hey cross shipped him a replacement - no problem and all was good after that...
I called Crane they weren't very helpful. He did admit the modules have had problems. He said they drop cyliders, which I guess means on one will fire. Makes sense but doesn't replace mine if thats the problem.

Don't you know how to use it? What do you have the rpm limit set at? Do you know how to read the downloadable maps and use the pots to set the different curves?
I've had the Hi4Tc for about 2.5 years and had great success with it. It took a lot of tinkering to get the curve right for smooth acceleration and no pinging though.
I had a crane hi-4 some years ago and it crapped out almost right away and the bike wouldn't start. I sold the bike and a second ignition bagged out on him. I didn't really notice any power increase and the bike didn't fire as quickly as the stock setup. I would never put an aftermarket ignition on my bike again, the stock system is just to reliable.
By all means, if the stock ignition works for your build, then I'd use it too. You've already paid for it after all. The aftermarket ignitions aren't made to increase power on nearly stock bikes. They are for bikes like mine that have higher compression, and more radical cam profiles as the timing needs to be adjusted to make the most of the power without detonating.
Increasing compression through larger displacement or modifying of heads or pistons increases the speed of the flame front burn rate...for that reason, you have to retard the timing or the air/fuel mix completes its burn before the piston reaches top dead center. This will yield a bunch of negative torque and more than likely ping/detonate...which is a major destroyer of motors. The stock timing module simply will not work for an agressive build.

I don't have the software only the unit. Not to mention the software is only pc compatible, I have a MAC. It would be nice if I could find someone who has one that has curves that I could load and try. I though some of the shops that sell the unit would have the setup but no one here does.
