Default Lever Replacement

I'm getting ready to swap out my clutch and brake levers with new ones, and the instructions I have tell me I need to take the master cylinder cover off, and what's with the cardboard??? Any suggestions?

I think this is common to most Harleys but the cardboard helps so you don't break off the Brakelight switch that's in the lever reciever. They are small and weak and easy to push into the reciever the cardboard stops that from happening.

I didn't take my master cyc cover off but it might ask you to do so to relieve pressure to make the install easier .

The cardboard is used to prevent the stop light switch from being broken. Use it, you will be glad You did.

Is there a particular SIZE or cardboard? just enough to fit in there? I'm assuming it's just a simple swap out from there.

yea you just want to keep the lever away from the switch and this is the easiest way to do so.I bent mine around that area and bent a paperclip to keep it in place Worked well.

yea it only took a few minutes to do my Swap

Popsicle stick or tongue depressor will work.

If you don't use something heavy enough you will break the plastic brake switch when you pull the lever......and you talk about a pain to rewire and re-solder the new brake part in the break lever area !!!

You will know if you have broken it if your brake lights stay on after you have finished.
