Default Installed New front motor Mount

I installed the new velva ride front motor mount (I had the new style HD mount on the bike) I noticed that at idle the motor doesn't seem to shake as much, when you let the clutch out in first and take off I think it has as much or more vibration then before. I did notice over 60mph the bike did feel a lot smoother, However I do a lot of riding in New Hampshire on back roads under 55mp.

To sum it up I liked the HD mount much better and will continue to use the Velva a little longer inorder to give it a chance to hopefuly prove it self

Anyone else have the velva mount, any comments?

Rick

Did your original mount fail, if so how many miles?

Did you replace the mount yourself? How difficult was it? Did you have to support/wedge the engine in anyway, or take any other components off to do it?

Keep an eye on 06 tour bikes. Mine developed a shimmy when changin lanes at any speed above 35mph. At around 14K miles, rear tire was worn slap out, took the bike in for a new tire and when I got the bike back, S/M said they changed the front mount out cause it was cracked. I understand this is common on 06 tour bikes. I cranked up to leave the dealer and immediatly noticed the vids at idle. No more shimmy, but I don't know if it was the bald tire or the motor mount. Mine is the new design Harley but I have "heard" the Velva ride is stiffer.

Rick,

Pull the Velva ride out and take about .040 off of the center bushing/sleeve. This will allow the mount to be tightened snug. This should cut down on your vibration.

It is not hard to do just time consuming. You will need to support the motor when changing the font mount. Nothing a couple of boards won't take care of. After installing either a front mount or swing arm bushings the motor should be aligned. Again not difficult to do.

I replaced my front mount around 11000 miles. But I didn't see a need to realign the engine to the frame. If I remember correctly. This is only required if you remove the entire engine and transmission from the frame. If you don't twist on any of the stabilizer links you should be fine. You lift the engine just enough to take the pressure off the front mount. No more. Youwill need a torque wrench to put things back togather. You will alsoneed a way to up rightthe bike off the jiffy stand and yet also raise the engine. I used one of these to lift the bike. Then used a standard floor jack to raise the motor. Take your time and you can do it.

If you want to cut down on vibration, align the motor. I align the motor each and every time the swing arm comes off or even gets loosened. Sometimes it doesn't need any adjusting other times a half turn or so, peace of mind.
