Brought my bike to the dealer to fix the mode select switch that wasnt working on bike because I was going to be out of town (and I was lazy) so when I come back I ask if the bike was ready and was told that the mechanic had dropped a part on the tank and so they had to send the tank out for paint.
I know everyone makes mistakes and things happen and I am not one to get to excited over things that happen like this BUT shouldn't they have called me the minute it happened? Thats all I asked them please next time...
Ask to take the Screamin Eagle Ultra on the floor for your annual planned week ride!
At least get a rental.... What if you were selling the bike and the new owner was going to pick up the bike the next day from cross country? what would you tell him?Not good....Make them pay!!!
It is what it is. At least they are taking care of it. Some places would have said it came in that way and left you screwed. I agree they should have called but feel lucky they are honest.
agree with moondog, which is why im glad my local stealer has a checklist they use when you take your bike in for whatever reason including an inspection. my neighbor took his scooter to the stealer and they actually dropped it and im assuming it hit a tool cart, well long story short he had a dent on the tank and they claimed it was there but fortunately for him they did a checklist and it showed nothin bein on the tank at the time of admittance... id still make em give ya demo to take home til its ready so you can take your weekend ride, or better yet tell em its your main mode of transport...
Yes they should have notified you, but they are taking care of the problem.
There is an HD dealership near me that has an account setup with a local body shop. They make repairs when the mechanics make a mistake. A lot of the time this is done under the radar.
I would want to make sure it did not have a big freaking dent that they just bondoed in. If you can tell it has been repaired at all on return I would not accept it and make them get you a new tank. that is what they have insurance for.
Accidents are accidents for sure but now you are going to have a repainted tank and it's not original. Hurts on trade in value etc. Not easy to figure out what the long term effect will be. At the very least you should get a rental and probably a free service.
