Tough call...if the metal is kinked a bit it will be a weak spot forever...Replacing is the safe bet....You can pick them up cheap from this forum or Ebay. If you will be takin em off it would be a good time to change styles if you have been thinking of it...

If they are in fact bent I'd replace them. Many people change bars so I would think that there are a lot of stockers on Ebay. Or, you could take this as an opportunity to upgrade your bars.

Instead of continually replacing broken parts, you might consider a training class. Even though you may have ridden in the past, if you're dropping the bike like you say you are, a course might do you more good than videos. And best of all, in a training class the bike you drop belongs to somebody else.

A training class is definitely coming - but in the meantime I'm doin what I can.
I've been reading a lot about everyone liking the heritage softail(if I remember correctly) bars as a replacement, but I couldn't figure out from the posts whether new cables were needed or not. Anyone know? Would HD parts be able to determine that by comparing part no's? I thought I'd at least go check them out before doing anything, but the stock bars seemed OK, I had a little bit of reach going on. On the other hand I haven't had a chance to ride more than about 40 minutes at one time yet. In the meantime the bars are OK, I actually didn't realized they were twisted until I visually noticed it, versus feeling wierd while riding. Again, they're not to far out of whack.
