Default Not charging enough

I think my Voltage Regulator is toast. I had to get a new battery this weekend, crap have the prices gone up on batteries, I put it in and fire up and I see that I do not have 13 - 14 volts of output. I check with my meter and confirm my suspicion. I want to also check my magneto output and I had seen on here someone describe how to do that but I can't find the post any more. Does anyone got the goods? I need to get my self fixed fast as this is my ride everyday for work with gas prices the way they are. Thanks and before you RTFM me I am going through that also but it is not always easy for me, I need better pictures

The wires for your stator should come out of the front side of your inner primary cover. Disconnect the connector. While the bike is running take your volt meter and check to see if the stator is producing 42 volts ac @ 2500 rpms.If it isn't, your stator is the problem. If it's 42 volts ac, then your regulator is the problem.

Stator is a pain to do, but not impossible if you have the right ones in your tool box. Last stator i picked up ran me 164 bucks.

Thanks now I am more confident that it is my VR and not my stator. I have to get a new fuse for my good meter but with my old crusty stand by I was able to do the resistance check outlined in the manual and there is infinite resistance but it is hard to read for the voltage so I will double check that but it is looking like the VR which is a big relief because even though it is going to be a PITA to change it is a lot easier to do than the stator. Either way it's another HD part. Hundred + dollars that is

make sure the conection that plugs into the regulator is tight mine got loose on my
06 ultra and my battary went dead while on a trip I bought a new battary and made it
home before it went dead. All it was was the loose conection

That is a good point. I have to take it over so I can pressure wash the engine before I get started so I will be going over all the connections to ensure they are tight.

I also had a loose connection on my 04 Flhtc, was told by a local HD tech that is a common problem,I also used Dielectric grease on connector.

Ok I did the following and these are my results.

I unplugged the stator connector started the engine and measured voltage at 3000 RPM and measured 26.6 volts. The manual says that I should have 19 - 26 VAC per 1000 RPM

I checked the regulator with my Ohm meter and showed that I have no resistance which I read to mean that I have a good ground

I performed the Regulator Bleed Test but I did not have a test light that works at that low a voltage so I used my meter and did find voltage but it was not much.

I did the milliamp test and am not sure that I did it right but every time I connected my amperage would go to zero.

So at this point I beginning to think my entire charging system is hosed and now I am not happy because I am going to wind up replacing it all at this point.

Pressure washing, that's real good on electrical connections. just my 2 cents.
