Road Glide Handlebars
Hey all. Got bad new...totalled my bike the other day. so im lookin for new ideas. I had a 97 ultra with 10k on it. bike was mint. not a scratch on it. a shame for it to be gone so fast. So im lookin at the road glide but the main thing im not too sold on are the handlebars. I personally think they are too high (just a personal thing). So my question is, do they make any handle bars that are a little lower on the forks so they are not up so high? maybe even pulled back a little bit. Any help would be great guys. thanks
It is a simple matter to loosen the bolts and "lower" the bars. Make sure to not allow them to drop (onto your gas tank) or get so low as to allow the handlebar control pods to come into contact with the tank when making a tight turn.

Did that and the original ones are still too far forward.
Because the Roadie doesn't have the fairing mounted to the forks, which has the wide riser-area, you can use bars that mount on the more common FL fork like a Road King's and whatnot. Some guys use Heritage bars, others use something more akin to a beach bar. Your size, height, and preferences will dictate which you choose of course, but you'll have more choices than you would compared to the batwing bikes. Another thing to note is all the Roadie bars aren't the same. Were you looking at the Roadie Ultra or Roadie Custom? I believe the Custom has the same bars as '09's. When the Roadie Ultra came out, it came with taller bars for a more relaxed position. Mine, you lean forward a bit by comparison. For me it puts a slight arch in my back almost like a Sport-Touring bike. Better on my back when the bumps come knocking.
I suggest you go rent one, you may be pleasantly surprised.

Heritage bars are a common bar that people switch to for comfort reasons and they're cheap. They're not lower but you can rotate them back some to make them look a little lower.

My stock bars on the 2010 FLTRX were just terrible (and I've got a 35" sleeve). The dealer when to the trouble to pull about ten different bars and while I was on the bike, they held them in position over the risers so I could check for best position.
Happily settled on '93 Wide Glide bars (of all things) , just a mini-ape with the the right amount of height and pullback (for me, YMMV). Great bars and a world of difference from the stock bars.
Initially tried to find something similar to my '07 Fatboy's bars but they wouldn't clear the fairing and dash boxes with full turn.
See if your parts guys will dig out a bunch of bars for you to try - they're not all that expensive so purchasing them in-house won't be too different from the discount houses pricing. Good luck

When I had a Road King I swapped the stock bars for Heritage style bars, but I never considered them for my Glide.
I looked at a ton of setups, and finally ordered a set of WO 515 in black - should be here next week.
