i stopped by an indy shop near me (about 20 minuts away)....to talk about getting the bars on my SG changed... i am a decent wrench but the whole internal wiring thing and electrical issues have got me leaning toward having somone else pull their hair out.....
Anyway i asked the guy what his labor rate was and he said $85 !!...... thats the same as my dealer!!!.... so whats the point?? plus if he works on something and down the road another problem pops up...i'm sure MOCO isn't gonna want to hear me say "Warranty"
do you think the moco is going to be as willing to try and hook you up on your next expensive mod just because you gave them business for your bars?? not as likely as you indy shop....plus its about supportin the lil man! if the lil man aint gonna give ya any kind of warranty then tell he should offer it and get it in writing, otheriwse go with the stealer....
Are you sure he didn't quote you $85.00 to do the job as opposed to hourly? I never heard of an Indy that charged dealer rates. Most I know charge $25.00 to $35.00 an hour. I would get clarification as I find it hard to believe.
I have not been in all of the independent shops, but the ones I have been in do not have the overhead of a dealer. Some I've talked to do not want any work that takes awhile to do.Just me talking but I have almost always had better luck with an HD dealer.Good luck.
a very good one near me...was a tech at a dealer for a long time...works alone, so you know knowbody else is gonna be workin on your bike...charges $40/hr...

highly doubt bars on a SG with internal wiring goin out the door for $85... somethin would prolly end up fabar when ya got it back....lol

My Indy is $60 per hour, 25 less than the dealership and he takes great care of my bike and never turns it out until it's perfect. Also, one of my riding buddies so I'm well taken care of and support him 100%!
