Question about this item for a 2009 touring RKC with 4 point docking hardware installed on the bike.
I know HD's site says that the part I need is for my 2009 RKC is 53276-09A. I'm looking at a used Tour Pak from 2007 or 2008 with the (I assume) mounting rack 53276-04 already installed to the underside.
I'm wondering if I will need to drill new holes under the Pak to make the new rack fit, or if the previous one's hole pattern will be the same?
I guess I'm not sure what the difference is between 53276-09A and 53276-04 - is it the hole alignment for attaching the Tour Pak, the docking system itself, or both?
as stated the docking points are totally different. You will need the rack for your year. The tourpak will have a totally different hole pattern. I would not drill additional holes in it. I would get an aluminum plate and drill it for the original holes in the tourpak, and also for the new holes in the rack, or you could just drill new holes in the rack itself. But again I would not drill new holes in the TP.
I have an '08 tourpak on my 2010. I went the aluminum plate route. Can't tell it wasn't made for it.
I just recently acquired a 2008 pack for my 2011. I was just looking at the mounting issues last night. I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean about the plate RJ, have any pics?
Aside from the hole locations on the underside being different, is there much (if any difference) between a Tour Pak for a 2009 FLHTC/U vs. say, a 2007 Pak for that same bike?

Why wouldn't you drill new holes on the underside of the TP to match the plate for a 2009-up model touring bike? What are the drawbacks to doing this?
It seems like if you modified the hole locations on the plate itself, it might affect the structural integrity of how the unit is supposed to sit on the plate itself - but perhaps not.

In terms of size, that is.
Or are they pretty much the same TP?
The '09 and newer Ultra TP's don't have a CB loading coil found on earlier models, so the space used by the loading coil in the older Ultra tour paks is available for storage. Dimensionally, they're the same.
