Who has removed the CAT from the headpipes of your 2011 Tourer & how was it done? Did you cut the head pipes, remove the CAT & then reweld? Thinkinig of doing it versus dropping the $450 on headpipes when that cash could go toward new cams. Did the exhaust tone change?
Thanks. I've seen that pic but that's where the 2 pipes come together. Just seems like it wouldn't be to hard to cut, remove & MIG weld back together.... Looking for someone who has done it. Thanks, Clay

That's right where i cut mine and cleaned the cat out. then just weld it together. both o2 sensors are before the cat so there is no issue removing it like some will say. It is worth it you will probably gain as much performance as some of the over priced after market head pipes that accept the stock diameter muffler inlet opening. Sounds better and there is a lower heat with it out. The cat works because it raises the temp so high in the pipe, turns orange at night real quick with the cat in. Not as great for your exhaust valves and engine as it is for the enviorment.
I measured from the welds and used a string to get a nice straight line. then cut it with a sawzall. drilled some holes in the middle of the cat to give it room to move and chisled it out then grinded on it with a dremel and made sure it was nice and clean. then i tiik it to a guy that does alot of welding in my area since i dont know alot about welding. he tig welded it with stainless. cost me $32.50. Im happy with it. as far as sound i dont know how much difference it made because i put slipons on at the same time.
i did the same to our limited. huge drop in temp.....
Ben,
Was the CAT in your bike where the 2 pipes join together or was it just below the head pipe flanges? I have been told it's just below the flanges in the vertical piping...What year is your bike?
Im on an 11 RK. mine was right where they come together in the collector chamber. its about 6 inches or so long. I cut it in the middle just like in the pic above. hope that helps
Got off my butt & went out to the garage to look. Yep, it is just like in the picture after the 02 sensors right where the 2 join together. Thanks for the input guys!
