Unfortunately this support group we're on only makes it worse. Its also bad when all your friends have the same disease and same bike. Then it becomes like USSR vs USA. They buy something then you have to up the ante.
If you think its expensive just think about us people from europe who have to pay 2 times or even more the price you pay, even euro being higher than usd...
hd europe IS someway similar to the mafia and our government is even worst.
we have to pay more than a million usd to buy a 2 bedroom apartment in a regular place in madrid (if you want something similar in a good neighborhood prepare 2 and a half million) , if you want to buy a ford mustang v6 you have to pay 60000 usd but we sell bmw and mercedes in the usa cheaper than in germany. our salarys are half of yours and petrol is 3 times more expensive...

Some how this doesn't make me feel any better. I think I'm heading over to the dealer and make a contribution to the cause!
1) If I never visited this or any HD forum and
2) Never went to the HD dealership, bought all maintenance parts on-line as needed.
I would be thousands of dollars ahead and probably still have ridden thousands of carefree enjoyable miles. Having been a hot rodder, motorhead and bike owner most my life none of that was ever going to happen however.
Funny thing is, before I bought the bike I actually considered buying a boat instead. One of the reasons I chose the bike was because I figured the boat would cost a lot more money with gas prices, dock fees, etc.
With the money I've spent getting the bike just the way I want it, the boat would have been a lot cheaper.

Madrid temperature - 82 degrees. Temperature here (Northern Michigan) 52 degrees. Who's lucky?
This is why I bought a used bike. I figured it to be a slight savings that I could use to make the bike how I wanted it, or at least that's what I told my wife :-) I'm just lucky she rides too. She doesn't need all the stuff I want, but she understands the addiction. Lucky for me, she went through all this in my days of hot rods and show cars and enjoys this much more because she can participate. Now its time to see what I can find on eBay.
