Default Throttle-NO response-Please help

Good morning, Riders.

Really need all your help on this one. Recently purchased a '06 FHLTCUSE, 103 cu inch - stock.

Was out for my 1st ride on it this weekend and for the first 100 miles everything was terrific.
However, on Sunday a trouble showed itself 3 times - once very close to life threatening.

I'm sitting at a uncontrolled T intersection and am going to make a left turn. There are cars approaching the intersection but I have lots of time and decide to make the turn. I turn the throttle and there is NO response from the rear wheel. I "crank" the throttle harder and this time the bike starts to 'idle' out into the intersection. Pull in the clutch rear the engine and the RPM's are there. Again, leave the clutch out and throttle and still no response from the rear wheel. By this time I'm looking at being T-Boned by a front grille. Thankfully the cage driver visually understood there was a problem and slowed down to a crawl. A couple more twists on the throttle, rev's were fine and then again release the clutch and this time the bike moves as it should.

Two other times it happened; once again turning left at a similar intersection and again turning right at a 4 way. Both times I almost lose control of the bike as the foot comes off the ground as the throttle is being turned.

I REALLY need some help on this one. I can't imagine the results in heavier, faster traffic.

ALL you help, suggestions and recommendations would be appreciated.

Ride In Peace

Sounds like maybe your clutch is slipping?

Thanks guys, the bike is completely stock.

If the clutch is slipping - "Would there be any other telltale signs?"

There were no noises, no nothing - and worse no movement.

Can a clutch slip "occasionally" and not all the time?

The bike has only 4500 miles.

My '09 did the same thing last year. I was riding home from work on the freeway with the cruise set and all of a sudden it was like I shut the bike off, I finally saw that the engine was still running but I could not get any response from the throttle. I nursed it to the dealer(about 10 miles in July) . It ended up being the throttle sensor that runs through the handlebars went bad. What you are describing sounds exactly like what was going on with mine. The dealer replaced it under warranty for me.
Good Luck.

Thanks SantaJim - I was wondering about some sort of sensor failure.
That's as good a place as any to start.
REALLY appreciate your response.

My '03 Sporty did the same thing. It happened three times before I finally got no throttle response at all. I did notice too that I didn't get full throttle during this time. Turned out the throttle grfip had broken where the cable ferrule attaches inside the grip mounting. These, evidently are all plastic. I looked all over for metal replacements with no luck. I checked with three dealers and several independents and no one had a metal one. They all said this was the first time they ever heard of this. The grips that broke were Kuryakyn. I put Kuryakyn's back on and no problems out of these. That happened two years ago. The ones that broke were installed less than six months prior to the failure.

Welcome to TBW (Throttle By Wire.)

Soon (to save the MOCO even more money) Harley's will be completely wireless and blue-tooth powered. Going down the street passed where someone is changing TV channels will probably make your horn blow!
