I have a question in regard to a friends new bike? He has one of those new 07 Ultra Classic and he can't seem to get it to run faster than 85 MPH. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether he's running it on flat open ground or pulling a step grade the bike just will not break 85MPH... When he showed me that it would do only 85MPH whether on flat level ground or going up a steep hill, that got me to thinking?
Does the 07' Ultra classic have a speed limiter? Or do you think the Mfg or dealership installed a speed limiter on his bike because it has a side car? (Yea, I know that a side car will make the bike have considerable more drag due to wind resistance. However, seeing how the bike pulls the same whether going up a steep grade or flat level ground is what got me to thinking there may be a speed limiter?)
All of you are stating speeds without a hack. I think he hit upon something about a governer limiting speed with a hack attached. Makes sense to me, I'd be interested from someone with a hack.
My father inlaw installed a sidecar on 05 RK himself..I know he did not add/change the rev limiter. The only complaint is the bike could use more power on grades with passenger.
Is it possible a dealer that installs these change the rev limiter?
At what rpm does the revlimter kick in if these bikes(the one in the original post) have one?Is it red line on the tac?
So, you all are saying that there is a rev limiter for 6th gear only?
It seems to pull plenty fine and tacks well in all other gears. It just won't break 85MPH in 6th gear and tacks at about 2900 and that's all it will rev.
I'm thinking (As some of you have stated) that it's in PCM (ECU or what ever it's called). That the computer knows the bike is in 6th gear and won't let it increase RPMs above 2900.
If that is the case then there must be a way to re program the computer? If so who, how, and how much?
Thanks everyone for your insight, this has been extremely helpful
I don't think the ECM knowes what gear your in. The speed sensor works through the ECM but there is noting to tell the ECM what gear your in. The trans is a simple mechanical device.
