I'm starting to think about going to a set of 10" or 12" apes on my Ultra. I just did a 2,000 mile road trip with one 500 mile day thrown in, and I think having my hands up a little higher and maybe less wrist angle would be a lot more comfortable. I'd still like to keep my hands behind the fairing, which is why I'd only go 10-12".
I have the zumo 660 GPS with the HD fairing mount. I really like the setup (very clean, good location, looks good when you pop off the GPS and put the rain cover on). My concern is that any mini-ape solution is going to put a handlebar right in front of the GPS. If I go to a different mount, I'm going to have some ugly holes in my painted inner fairing.
I've attached a pic that shows my current setup.
So just wondering, anyone running any kind of apes with the HD GPS mount? Pics? Thanks.
I'm not totally clear on what you're trying to do, but the the eCaddy GPS mount for handlebar can go anywhere along the handlebar, even vertical (as on an ape) because of the Ultra-Security pin (and anti-vib) lock it into place. Might be an option for you??
I had Harley 12" miniapes on my bike with the gps mounted on the fairing. If the bars are pulled back toward the rider just a little there is no problem in seeing or operating the zumo. I now have 12.5 Wild One Chubbys on the bike and like the hd bars better but it's to late now. the reason for change was the HD bars got bent when bike dropped hard.
