Default Rookie.....success.....monkey bars

Ok. Success. Having a beer celebrating.

It has been several weekends and a few late nights, but I have taken my 2011 street glide and added 12 in monkey bars

A lot more work than I thought. I didn't realize I would take the bike apart. Didn't realize I would need to learn to solder 60 joints

Made a few rookie mistakes. Broke the clutch cable scores where it joins the tranny case. The first time I installed it.

However. Went to start it tonight and everything worked. Love the bars and I am tickled that all the electronics worked. I will post some pics once the monsoons stop in Kentucky.

Thanks for the encouragement and thanks for all the info on this forum

Congrats on the install! No better feeling than knowing you did it yourself!

+1, now run out and buy the service manual. Kinda hindsight but it shows how to remove the pins from connections without having to cut and solder. Plus it will help tons when you move onto the next project.

Good on ya. I did mine last year and the further I got with it the more I felt like I was digging a bigger and bigger hole. Finally got it done but there were more than a few %$@*s coming from the garage.

Thanks ya all. It does feel good and there was a lot more involved than I thought.

I took her out today. It was 40 deg and spitin rain all day but I needed to get out and I needed to make sure everything worked and It DID!!
I wanted to check the cruise since I couldn't check it last night in the garage.

Feels good to have it done and I love the bars. I was comfortable riding this afternoon.

In response, I did purchase a service manual......and used it as a step-by-step instruction guide. I WISH I had asked more questions. Having the wire extension kit would have been Extremely useful. So if anyone reading this is considering doing this yourself. The wire extension kit will save you soldering over 50 joints.
I have to say, I got pretty good at soldering by the time I was done.

I will include a few pics before and after.

Attached is me half-way into it
