At least you can buy speakers albeit not your first choice. Ditto exhaust.
My sypathy is reserved for guys who want an accessory and HD has stopped making it. For example, as popular as cruise control is to add to a Touring bike, the guy with the '03 or older EG/RG can't get a factory cruise control kit and hasn't been able to for a couple of years because HD obsoleted the part.
The same thing has happened for '04-07 EG/SG owners; no HD cruise control kits, although it's probably possible to make-up a kit from parts that remain available.
I agree with the post...the options arent there.....and...after market manufacturers have the information. Too many changes have happened recently to invest in stuff that addreses old technology. You will see the after market options get even smaller for older bikes. It is what it is...in the last 3 years...HD has made a lot of progress..after market will follow them, they wont ever go back.
If you open a J&P or Drag Specialties catalog there is about 15 ka-jillion parts for 08 and below Harleys already there. Maybe it's "full"!
Seriously though, a good portion of today's "cool parts" still fit older models, but yeah, not many built specifically for older models and NOT newer models...
Okay I'm a little lost here. I get the J&P cycles catalog, tons in it for older bikes. Dennis Kirk, same, same. S&S just came out with the new style exhaust for older bikes. Help me out here, what can't you get?
maybe that's why they invented swap meets. i have an old 92 fxr and that's one of the good sources i have found for parts. there's always j&p, dennis kirk, custom chrome and others, but i refuse to put on the hong kong chromed up stuff that flakes off in two years. that's one thing original harley chrome has over the aftermarket, their chroming process is great. this planned obsolesence is surely a marketing scam with us, the harley owners being their target.
I'll keep my '05. With the engine mods I've installed and fuel moto tuner, it'll keep up with if not beat a wheezing, choked down stock newer model 96" any day.
These baggers are really timeless though. The overall looks and lines haven't changed much in years. I've had no problems finding seats, pipes and various other bits 'n pieces. Just have to look.
It's all about the money. Just think about how much money it takes to manufacture a part (aftermarket). Example. There not going to spend $$$$ on tooling for a steel stamped part & sell 500. then you would have plating/paint/materials & packaging on top of tooling. I do understand where you're coming from.
