Default The Dragon

Just back from a great two day trip to TN and NC. Did the Cherohala Skyway and the Dragon, and more. Absolutely great riding. If you're near the Cherohala, it's truly one of the great roads in the country. Breathtaking views. 52 miles of curves and scenery.

I'd heard so much about the Dragon, I was a little nervous. It was great. Like an amusement park ride for big kids. First run was fun. Second was a blast. A real test for your skills.

I'm going the first week of May. Can't wait. Will be my first time to ride the Dragon and the Skyway. What was the temperature like? Friend told me yesterday it might be a little cold the first week of May.

I went there last September and had a great time. Absolutely beautiful. I also got to visit a C-141 Starlifter crash site where I had some friends and flying buddies killed when they hit one of the mountains while practicing a SOLL I mission in Aug 1982. It was a very moving experience for me. If anyone is interested in visiting the crash site PM me and I can get you directions to it. Its about a 1/8 mile walk down a trail off the Skyway. It's a shame there is no marker where the crash took place, just about a 5 acre open field with a hole where the Air Force cleaned up after the crash. I plan on going back this September and visit the site again. If I'm ever anywhere in the area, I'm gonna go by there and visit the location. Anyway, like Banks727 said, it is a beautiful and breath taking ride. Also, don't forget Clingman's Dome which is not far from there either.

I'm riding up from Orlando. Ending up in Morristown, TN for a wedding. Definitely gonna ride the Dragon, and the Skyway on my way home through the north Georgia mountains. What are roads are must-rides while I'm in western North Carolina and east Tennessee?

The weather should be great and plenty warm begining of May. The trees hadn't bloomed up there yet, so it should be better when you get there.

Also, we stayed at the Blue Waters Mountain Lodge in Robbinsville. I can't even describe how great this place was. 9 room two story lodge on a lake. Pretty much a bed and breakfast. The owners, Mike and Maury are awesome.

Email me if you care to have more info for the lodge. I rarely6 gu check PM's. 6 guys and we all were just amazed with this place. Taking the wife, she'll love it. Very romantic as well.

It's a great ride. But no pictures? Come on now, half the fun of that trip is the snaps.
