Default Rotor shot not the stator

I first thought that my stator was my problem with my charging system but now I'm not so sure. I got everything taken apart and start inspecting the condition of things and I find that the magnets about a third of them on the rotor are sticking together end to end. I spread them out and I inspect the others to find that they don't move. I read somewhere that there is a strong adhesive that is used on the magnets so I'm thinking now that some of that adhesive is not as strong as it should be. So now I can take the stator back because it is not the problem and get a new rotor instead. Though I may just do the whole thing since I have it apart unless I can find some strong *** glue to put the magnets back in place with. I did do all the electrical checks and there are not any shorts just low output.

Try to find an automotive shop that rebuilds alternators, generators, etc. I had a problem with the magnets coming loose on a small engine, a local shop fixed it for a few bucks.

I was able to get a new rotor at the dealer for $72.00 so I decided to go the safe route. Now I have to hope that I didn't just screw up my new stator. I was working the grommet through carefully when all of a sudden it popped through further than I wanted so I had to pull it back through. Pissed me off big time but now it's in place with the new rotor. Tomorrow the rest goes back on and all goes well I should be charging again. It does surprise me that it's a wet system though

Alternators have been running in oil for over half a century, if not longer, since long before Harley started doing it! It is the norm, not unusual.

Best of luck getting yours running right.

Thanks, I just found it interesting because the only other time I have come across it was in Navy Aviation with CSD's Constant Speed Drives basically a high output alternator and generator. It's a great idea just hadn't seen it. It would be good in autos too.

Got it all put back together last night and everything is good again. Putting out the right amount of voltage and the bike seems to be a little bit peppier now
