Another approach. Wait for a month or two for the large internet vendors (e.g. Easter Performance Cycles) to run some really strong sales and buy the pipes then. I purchased Rinehart True Duals last November for $599.95 (why they don't just say $600 is a mystery).

Instead of the SERT I purchased a Terminal Velocity II from Terry Components that includes an exhaust gas sniffer that goes into the irght side header pipe and monitors the exhaust and adjusts the fuel automatically to maintain the optimum ration of fuel/air. Bascially, it is the same type of exhaust gas monitoring that the 2007 touring bikes have now and the '06 Dynas had last year.

The virtue of the TVII and Rinehart set-up is the TVII doesn't require any dyno time at all and it is priced somewhat lower than the SERT if you get if from Direct Parts. The SERT does allow ignition timing adjustment that is not part of the TVII function.

But to go from the stock 88 inch hp and torque to 74 hp and 79 torque for $1,000 plus two hours from the HD store to install was very good value for me. Especially compared to $450 for V&H slip-ons and $467 SERT plus $300 of dyno time.

Also, as long as you don't go to some very radical cam (very high lift and duration) or very high compression pistons, you can change the cams and cylinders without dynoing the bike--the TVII justs adjust the fuel accordingly to maintain the optimum fuel/air ratio.

But each to their own; me, I am not a numbers guy when it comes to hp and torque and I am much more interested in reliability and enough power to take care of my riding interests--the TVII and Rineharts do just fine for me. I am, however, saving my pennies (and it will take quite a few) to do a 103" CVO Screamin Eagle motor--now that's some serious streetable hp and torque. I didn't mention the SE air cleaner since whatever you do, you will change to something that increases air flow.

You are doing your homework; so you will get a good combination of the many to choose from. Let us know what you decide and how you like it.

I'm glad I could help. Gathering the info from your posts.. The route I would take would be, Get the V&H slip-ons, K&N Air filter and the SERT now. Get the cam later when your ready to either go bigger bore or have head work done. asuperheat gives some good advice on the cam suggestion. The only reason I say wait for the cam purchase is because of our human nature to always want to go BIGGER. If you buy the cam now you will be limited to an extent. When you're ready for the big bore and/or head work, I'd be willing to bet money you will want a more radical cam wether you purchased one prior or not.

All in all, the three areas (intake, exhuast and SERT) you are planning to upgrade will be needed reguardless. This way those areas will be ready when the time comes for hardcore upgrades.

This might be bad advice but to be honest.. I'd skip the dyno this time (if you only upgrade the three forementioned) and just get the closest map to your config. Keep the tuning for the final product.

Ideal would be my prior post but.. If your like me.. we have to be cautious about throwing time and money away.

Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

I run Vance and Hines True Duels on my Road King and the install was easy along with full length heat shields I am very pleased. They make a real difference in the look and performance.
You may also consider the Low Profile rear shocks. They are a little pricey at $275.00 but my Road King rides well and looks better than stock.
Hope this helps.
