Thinking about upgrading to a Street Glide and was told a 103 sucks down the juice quite a bit .lol Whay kind a mpg one should expect from a stock motor to a 103 and is it worth to upgrade Thanks
I have one, rode about 250 miles today on little over a tank...don't have exact mileage but I will get it on my next fill up. It probably equates to how twitchy the riders hand is, as with any other bike. It's a smooth ride, handles perfect and pulls like nothing else. Cruise control doesn't even struggle on hills. It can't be much off from a standard 96.
Depends entirely on how you ride it. I'm on a basically stock 96. It does have a Stage 1 on it, Fuelmoto's setup with Jackpots, AC, and PCV, which really didn't change the mileage I was getting one way or the other. For a motorcycle, I don't consider that it get's particularly great fuel mileage in as much as my car, an 06 Honda Civic gets pretty much the same except for really stiff headwinds were it actually gets better than the Harley and it does it on regular gas. I got the chance to ride a stock 103 at a factory demo ride the week before Easter. It was as strong as my Stage 1 96 if not a little more, I liked it, but ridden conservatively, I don't see why it wouldn't get similar fuel economy. Of course I could be wrong about that.
There's a lot of things that contribute to and subtract from the kind of fuel mileage you'll get and unfortunately, how you ride it is one of the biggest of them.
I went from riding an 07 Softail Standard with the 96 to an 09 Road King with the 103. The Softail got 44 around town and 50 on the interstate. My Road King gets 40 around town and about 45 on the interstate. Now part of that is the added weight of the Road King and part is the 103. How much I am not sure, but I hope this answers your question.
Around town I get around 38 mostly cause Im playing with the throttle
On longer interstate rides w/ cruise on / off, I get around 45
My old 98 FLHT w/ a decent 80 inch EVO build & CV carb, I got maybe 47-48 on a trip
Hi, I ride an 07 Ultra with a 103, Powerpacc, SPOs and woods 6-6 cams (with a PCIII). The key is to get a good tune. Because of the difference between imperial and us gallons I look at miles per tank. Before the tune I was getting 130/135 now 150, maybe a bit more if I pushed it. This is with mainly highway riding and reasonable with the throttle. The guy said he could lean it our a bit more if I wanted. But the grunt and rideability in this thing now 8-D !!
I asked the same question awhile back...The milage is almost the same as the 96. I traded my 09 RKC (47k on her) yesterday for a 2011 with the 103...Will let you know.
there is little difference between my stock 96 and after it was built to a 103. most of it can be attributed to the right hand on the throttle. you sure aren't going to be using all of the power available for 100% of the time with either motor, so they'll be pretty similar.
Usually I get around 30 to 35 mpg. yesterday i got 41 tooling arounf the back country. Staying around 60 and under.
I have the 255 cams and power duals and sest, a/c ect
