To answer someof the suggestions; volt meter both on the bike and hand held at the battery read under 12 at idle. I checked the stator output and only got around 8VAC at idle and everything I have found says it should be almost double.
Tommy120, not sure if the stator can be pulled without taking the inner primary off. If anyone has other insight I would appreciate it. I just got up and have some time today to look into it. Thanks again guys.
Thankfully I don't have to pull the inner primary. I went and bought a stator based on the poor voltage reading from the stator (8-9 ACV at idle when it should be 18-20). Hope to tear into it tomorrow. I will post results when I am done. Try to post some pics if I can swing it as well. Thanks for the responses guys, as always its brey helpful.

Reason: spelling
It was the stator! Pulled everything apart this morning. No severe, obvious damage. Couple of areas that look like they could have gotten a bit warm, but, there was a posting here with pics and that stator was cooked; not mine. I guess the difference was his wasn't putting out anything, mine was. Got the new one in and buttoned up. Good solid 14+ volts at idle at the battery and 22+VAC at teh stator output plug. Compare that to battery power at idle at the battery and only 8VAC at the stator plug.
