so last August I installed Bub 7's. Bike sat most of the winter. This spring when I took the bike out I noticed the chrome flaking off the tips already. Contacted Bub, no warranty coverage. so yesterday I pulled the tips off, sandblasted the chrome off in a blast cabinet, and painted them black with semigloss engine enamel. the engine enamel is good to 500 degrees, hopefully it'll be enuf, I didn't use 1200 degreee header paint because it was only available in flat black and I wanted a little shine. so far the semigloss looks pretty good, if it doesn't hold up, will explore either powdercoating or rechroming next winter.
These pipes sound good, but with such poor customer support, I have purchased my last Bub product.
edited to add: while Bub would not warranty the tips, they were more than happy to try to sell me a new set of black or chrome tips for $105.00, which I declined.

Hey Steve...I'm right there with you...got the 7's and overall like'em but I'm a bit frustrated that the chrome's coming off. Haven't called Bub yet but disappointed to hear that they don't support their product. I'll probably give'em a shout this week and try anyway...You got any pics of your refinish work?

This is what really gets me. The chrome peeled, but we are happy to take your money on another set which the chrome will most likely peel off too. WTF? No logic there whatsoever. Chrome is never warrantied regardless, but that is crazy.
I came to the same conclusion about BUB when i had em on my Metric bike, but they were the only one that made an exhaust for that bike that actually looked decent.....not to be too hard on them but they kinda suck and I dont recom them.
Had the same issue with my 2010 V&H Pro Pipe. Noticed it at about 13,000 miles. Called V&H at 17,000 miles and they sent me a new end cap. Don't know if I got lucky or they just flat out stand behind there products. Anyway, when it came time to buy slip-ons for my EGC I went right back to Vance & Hines.
I just got an e-mail from BUB and they are in the process of redesigning the chrome tips on Bub 7 Stealth and Bub 7 CAT mufflers to address a peeling chrome problem. They said the problem is related to hotter exhaust temps. I assume this is on catalytic converter equipped exhaust systems but maybe not. They will be making the tips out of a different metal. I don't know if they are changing any of their other products.
I ordered Bub 7 Stealth slip-ons on September 3rd and they still are not shipping them. Bub expects to ship all the back orders by the end of December.
The customer service issue is certainly still a concern.
