but there is a dealer within 30 miles of me , so I take it in to them. THe service writer feels my pain and says they will get on it right away. Excellent service . I have to go back to work anyways and will be gone a week.
When I get back I go to the dealer and they tell me that the leak was coming from the gasket between the the tranny and the engine, they replace it , still leaking ,so they tear it down and find out that it is leaking through the cast metal and they have to order a new case. I ask how long and they says 4 to 6 weeks??? Wtf????? I tell them that time frame is unacceptable.
Sorry to hear this, but it happens with anything. Now, I'm not why you think this dealer that you did not buy the bike from should bend over backwards to get it finished in YOUR time frame. Hell you even admitted "excellent service" and I would say so if they got it right in.
If it was the dealer who prepped it and sold it then yes, they should prioritize this for you, but I just don't see why you think the closer dealer should.
I'd go back where I bought it and talk to them. If you can talk them into a loaner, even a used scoot while they are working on yours, that would be good. You'd think they could get an engine quicker and throw it in. Just work out the best deal you can. You are sitting in the catbird seat right now.
I don't know anything about the 110 issues, but if it was my bike and I rode it 60 MILES and that happened I would take the bike back and kick and scream until I rode home on a new bike. Especially after they said 4-6 weeks for a new case!!
ya plus I think I would have stayed with the original dealer
Does the serial number appear on the "case" or elsewhere on the motor? I ask because if the new motor/case does not have a serial number matching the serial number on the frame that could potentially affect resale value.
Sorry to hear about your bike. Seems like the only option you have is to let the dealer rebuild the motor with new cases.
The exact same thing happened to me. I bought a new Ultra Classic in 2005. It started leaking oil at 4828km. The problem was porosity in the engine cases. My dealer removed the motor from the bike and rebuilt it with new cases engraved with the bike's VIN number. Total downtime was about 2.5 weeks, most of which was spent waiting for the new cases to arrive from Harley.
I bought my current bike used (2008 Ultra Classic). After my previous experience I refused to buy another new Harley.
