I've had my 09 streetglide for a month now. I had the rinehart tru duals put on at the dealer before I picked it up, after hearing several guys tell me they're one of the best, but my bike isn't loud to me. I hear bikes all the time riding by that are just way louder than my bike. Granted it sounds good when I get into it, but these bikes I hear just be cruising and are noticably louder than my bike. So my question is, is it something else besides exhuast that make these bikes sound the way they do? I doubt all these bikes have cams I'm hearing.
You might be hearing what I call "exhaust envy"! Just kidding, you get more sound from behind the bike than on it, maybe because of the bags. The only way to tell truly is to hear it ridden by someone else, someone that you really trust.
Now, the most important question...did you get your stock pipes from the dealer? And can I buy your stock header pipes from you? I sent you a PM.

There you have it. You've created the first sin of exhaust rules which is: 'Don't trust anyone else's ears, but your own'. I spent a long time listening to other bikes, and different pipes before deciding. it is very subjective, and what I like, may not be what you like.
So the question is, are you unhappy with your current setup, enough to change it?

Not enough to change it, not anytime soon anyway, and I've heard someone else ride it and it still isn't loud no where near what I expected for $2400. I really would of been upset if I paid full price, I got 20% due to buying the bike that day.
Are you saying that if it is one of the best it should also be one of the loudest? Sorry, but most guys know that loudest isn't the best. I think Rineharts have "one of the best" sounds. Straight pipes or no mufflers at all will be louder, have a harsher tone, and run even worse than the true duals. The best systems, in many guys opinion, are good sounding but not overbearing pipes. Pipes that you can ride several hundred miles without getting a head ache. Me, I know that the "best" systems are 2 into 1s that produce more torque where you need it. They are not the loudest. They have a unique sound that some guys hate. That's sad because those guys still have to listen to their friends 2 into 1s while trying to catch up to them. Even worse their bikes are so loud everyone notices them and that their friends on quieter bikes are leaving them in the dust.
it was $2400 for the parts and install for the true dual system, screaming eagle air filter and the tuner... and no I don't think louder is better, and my brother said the exact same thing you did which is rineharts have one of the best sounds. Think I'm a just leave my exhaust alone cause it sounds good an I can hear my music even at 80mph, and I'm headache free after hours of riding. Just was curious how those bikes were so loud, so I'm guessing now they have straight pipes...
WOW !!! I've got the same setup on my 07 and didn't pay that much at the local stealer... Surely 4 years and inflation doesn't make up that much of a difference. ( I paid just under $1800 for everything )
