Default changing cam - info needed

hi,

having read a lot the last days there are some questions bothering me:

thinking about changing the cam (stock) of my 2010 Roadking classic (TC96) - having a combo of a big sucker and v&h twin slash monster ovals... do i really need headwork and also the change of pushrods (my dealer suggests) or is it more "nice to have" ?

driving mostly around 40 to 60 mph - would be the feuling reaper 574 or wood 555 the right choice?
unfortunately i have no information in which rpm range the above mentioned speed would be ...

Default Cams

Hi Mary, I have a new RKC (103). After breaking it in I changed the cams. I did EXTESIVE research on this. Here are my suggestions.
No headwork is necessary.

I would go with the Woods 555's or SE 204's. I went with the 204's to keep the bike under warranty. I have Reinhart True Duals and a Big Sucker.
I went with part #17997-99A...quick install pushrod kit.

You should definitely consider a tuner and a dyno tune. This will cost some dough, but will dial your bike right in.

Cams will put a BIG SMILE on your face when you open that baby up. You will know where tha extra money went. Have fun.

@R103:

thanks for your reply - warranty is a good hint ;-)

i'm only wondering why my dealer suggests headwork - does it significantly increase tq or maybe the hours of work are similar?

i am still searching for a comparison of Feuling Reaper 574, Woods 555 and maybe SE 204 any ideas where to find some #s ?

if ya poke around the forum you'll find tons of info on cams, use the search feature and also google. you can also call some builders like Bob Wood directly. I did a ton of research and for me the TW5-6 was the right choice. you'll find the SE255 and Woods 555 are prol the most popular cams on this forum for a stock compression 96".

check out the andrews website for some good info. They also suggest (in plain english) which cam is right for individual riding styles.

I went with the 555's on my '10 SG, no head work and used adjustable push rods so i did not have to take the rocker covers off. Believe me it fricken rocks!!!!! You will need some kind of fuel controler, I have the PC-V with a Fuel Moto map and it runs very well without the dyno tune. I do not understand the warranty comment though??

What are you hoping to gain out the cam change? In other words, what part of your current stock combination are you not satisfied with? I'm making an ASSumption that you ride pretty conservatively based on your statement of usually riding between 40 - 60 mph. Are you looking for the quickest acceleration to 60mph?

Wow - thanks for all your comments...

@Biggzed:
Over winter i changed the stock air filter to big sucker and i really was happy how remarkably different riding felt.
Now i simply want to "feel" more torque while accelerating and cruising, hope you know what i mean ...

I've run the SE 255's in a 103 ci but have read alot of guys like them in the 96 ci. They seem to work better with the compression ratio of the 96 ci.Oh and I also liked the way they worked in my 103 in my 09 Ultra . Also think the Woods 555s would be a good choice bout used them in My 11 Limited.Decided to try se254 instead.

Mary if you do a search on the site fuelmoto has some great comparisons on the se255's and the Woods 555's. Either would put a big smile on your face from stock! I have a set of se255's and adjustable pushrods in my basement - pm me if you want a great deal......
