I have detachable trunk and a sissy bar with a streetglide seat on my electraglide. Hardly ever use the trunk...use the sissybar when riding two up. Its nice to know I have The option.
I just put the quick detach on my 07 Ultra. Keep in mind that you will probably want to buy another seat. The stock one looks rathar bulbous with the pak off. Fortunately there are many used replacements available.
Thank you for all the replys. I will try the bike w/o the pak by just unbolting it first and decide then. . . but as I will be riding 2 up about 90% of the time, I am guessing the pak will stay on ALOT.
If you're going to be 2 up 90% of the time, don't bother with the QD. The first time you put your passenger on there without the backrest will likely be the last
I bought a QD for my Glide 2 years ago... still haven't gotten around to installing it. The TP is such a useful piece of luggage, you get used to having all that space in a hurry.
I bought an '07 Ultra recently that already had the detachable hardware installed. Once I got a new seat for it I really enjoy it in SOLO MODE. I know others have said that they don't find much of a difference in the handling but I certainly do. The CG is lower and the bike feels lighter. That TP weighs 35lbs. and considering the height of it I do believe it influences the handling of the bike. Anyway I love my bike with TP or without, 2 bikes in 1.
