Default detachable trunk question. . . . .

Okay, I am buying my Roadglide Ultra this summer, and I am trying to decide if I want, or would even use, a detachable trunk kit. I am curious, how many of you who have added this set up use it for anything besides cleaning. Do you really take the trunk off, or put it on, that often?

Oh, yeah. You'll use it. My tour pak stays off 90% of the time 'cause it looks better without it (2005 CVO Electra Glide). I put it on for multi day trips- only takes about two minutes to put on / take off.

I had one on my '07 RG, ended up leaving it on all the time. It's just too handy - especially now that we ride with headsets. Easily lock up two helmets. Also gets pretty pricey and complicated when you consider lights, speakers, and radio antenna issues that require relocation and/or plugs.

The newer attachment system is far better than the pre-09 one was. I ended up making Delrin bushings for mine and a couple of guys here in order to stop the rattling. The new ones don't do that.

I agree! Now mine is on 75% of the time, the extra cargo room is very convienient, but the look and handling without is also great too!

I have a detachable one for my RK, thought I'd only have it on for trips. It's now on 98% of the time because it's so nice to have. You'll love it.

I bought my bike used, and it has the Quick detach hardware on it. I do agree that the bike looks better without the pac, but I really missed it when I took it off. No real ride /handling difference with it off. Since I owned my bike I only took it off 2 times (for riding, many more for cleaning) My advice is save your money. the tourpac is a great feature, and I would rather have the storage over the cleaner look. I have one and love it. My tour pak is off about 85% of the time. I leave it on during winter to store the extra gear needed for cold weather riding the rest of the time I leave it off. get yourself a short windshield and take that sucker off. makes the bike look like a dressed up street glide. You won't be disappointed.

If you're going to ride with a passenger most of the time, it's unlikely that you'll want the tour pak detachable.

If the tour pak is detachable, you'll probably want a new seat, so that's additional $$$.

If you want to experiment, get the bike and remove the tour pak; it's held on by four bolts that are easily removed; and, see how you enjoy the bike w/o the TP.

I much prefer the appearance and handling of the bike (when riding twistys) w/o the TP, but I seldom have a passenger. The TP space is addictive, so I've learned to promptly remove it when I return from a trip.

Mine didn't come with one but I added a detachable one for wife's comfort. It's off the bike probably 90% of the time. For solo trips I mount the detachable passenger backrest (sissy bar) and mount a T-Bag directly behind me.

Thank you for all the replys. I will try the bike w/o the pak by just unbolting it first and decide then. . . but as I will be riding 2 up about 90% of the time, I am guessing the pak will stay on ALOT. I guess I am strange too as I like the look of the Road Glide with and without the tour-pak on it. . .

My wife does NOT know how to pack light, even going to work she takes two bags, her "Purse" (small pack pack) and her lunch box (another small back pack). . so the extra room when I take her to work every day will be handy ! lol
