Problem With Starter
I just turned 1,000 miles on my new Ultra Classic today. For the last few days, I've noticed that when I go to crank the bike, often I hit the starter button multiple times and nothing happens. The problem seems to be getting worse (more frequent). Something that seems to help is to let the clutch out and rock the bike back slightly. Usually, the next press of that starter button after doing that gets results.
I'm taking the bike in on Monday to get my Rinehart true duals, Barons Big Air Kit, SERT and a dyno-tune, along with the 1,000-mile maintenance. I plan to address the starter issue with the service manager.
Anybody got any idea what might be the problem?

Hey Bro,first thing to check is your battery connections. Then your starter relay. If you don't have a ohm meter, that's ok because theirs another relay just like your starter relay, just swap them out,and see if that makes a diffrence. Then check to see if the cable going to your starter solonoid is tight. If all seems to be right, get your battery checked under load. Also like I tell all harley owner's that will listen, get yourself a manuel starter button, for your bike it's a simple install, and one day you'll thank yourself.Don't go to a motorcycle store, and get one(to expensive) go to e-bay,closes thing to a kickstarter you can get good luck bro>.
I had starter problem on my (08 ultra classic) big pain in the a__ . Come to find out after #2 trips to the dealerships, Tilley H.D. in Salisbury, N.C. found the problem to be that the factory forgot to put sealer on the starter. In time, starter worked loose. Tilley h.d. fixed it. It was all under warranty. Good luck...
Went out to the garage a couple of minutes ago.
-Ignition on
-Pull clutch in (bike in 1st gear)
-Push starter button - Nothing
-Push starter button again - Nothing
-Let clutch out
-Pull clutch in
-Push starter button - Success
Hmmm....the only thing I did was to cycle the clutch switch. Perhaps, this is the problem....maybe that switch is making intermittent contact.
Well, the wife and I will be on the bike first thing in the morning. I'll keep an eye on the situation and see if cycling the clutch fixes the problem if/when it appears. If so, I think I'll know where to focus the dealer's attention on Monday.
